First, let me explain why it’s important to uninstall programs that you don’t use. Over time, as you install more and more program on your PC, you’ll probably notice it beginning to run slower and slower. There are many reasons that this happens but we won’t get into those reasons in this article.

Suffice it to say that having a lot of unnecessary programs on your computer can bring your once blazing fast PC to a slow crawl. Okay, without further delay, lets get to it. First we’ll start with Windows XP. This will work for nearly all programs but there may be some that need to be uninstalled with their own uninstall utility. Norton Antivirus is one that comes to mind. This program is notorious for not uninstalling completely with the Windows uninstall utility.

How to Uninstall Programs On PC Computers Running XP:

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Click on Control Panel.
  3. Double click on Add or Remove Programs.
  4. Wait for the list of installed programs to be displayed on your screen.
  5. Find the program that you would like to uninstall in the list.
  6. Click on the program you would like to remove from your computer.
  7. Click Remove.
  8. A message will probably pop up asking you if you are sure that you would like to uninstall the program. Click “Yes” to uninstall it.
  9. Wait for the program to uninstall. Some programs will uninstall in a few seconds while others may take several minutes.

How To Uninstall Programs On PC computers Running Vista and Windows 7

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Click on Control Panel.
  3. Click on Programs.
  4. Click on Programs and Features.
  5. Wait for the list of installed programs to be displayed.
  6. Find the name of the program you would like to uninstall.
  7. Click Uninstall.
  8. If you are asked whether you are sure you would like to uninstall the program, click Yes.
  9. Wait for Windows to finish uninstalling the program.

That’s all there is too it. If you happen to have a suborn program that doesn’t want to uninstall using these methods, you may have to use a special uninstall utility that you can get from the developer of the program. As I mentioned before, Norton is a difficult one to remove completely unless you download the Norton Uninstall utility that you can get from Symantec.
