Finally, the moment I’ve been waiting for, someone has come out with a touch screen netbook.  These little laptops are all the rage and it just makes sense that computer manufacturers would jump on the band wagon and start putting touch screens on them.  The Asus Eee PC T91 does just that.

This cute little touch screen laptop is compact which is what you would expect from any netbook.  It weighs in at only two pounds and sports an 8.9 inch touch screen.  It is a resistive touch screen with a glossy finish.  Personally I think it’s a mistake to make touch screens with glossy screens.  They simply show more fingerprints than matte finished touch screens. If you don’t know what a resistive touch screen is, click here.

The Eee PC T91 is a convertible touch screen netbook which means that the screen will rotate on its hinge so it can be folded flat and used in tablet mode.  The screen basically lays flat over the keyboard with the touch screen facing up.

The Asus doesn’t support multi-touch functionality which is a bit of a disappointment.  It does however have a lithium polymer battery rated to perform for five hours.  Real life battery run times would likely be less than that.  It seems like computer manufacturers often exaggerate battery run time for some reason.

It has an easy to use 9 point calibration process for the touch screen.  Like most touch screen laptops, it comes bundled with it’s own software to make interacting with the touch screen very easy.

Let’s have a look inside the Asus Eee PC T91.

Specifications:

  • CPU – Intel Atom (Silverthorn) 1300 Mhz
  • Graphics – Intel GMA 500
  • Operating System – Microsoft Vista
  • Display Size – 8.9″  1024 x 600 pixels
  • RAM – 1 GB
  • Hard Drive – 16 GB Solid State Hard Drive
  • Weight – 2 pounds
  • Dimensions – 226 mm x 165 mm x 28 mm
  • Ports – 2 USB, VGA, line out
  • Communications – WiFi 802.11b/g and bluetooth 2.1+ EDR

This little laptop certainly doesn’t have as much muscle as many touch screen laptops but most netbooks don’t.  Consider this for what it is.  It’s a netbook with a touch screen.  How cool is that?  It’s priced at just $499 which makes it quite affordable for a touch screen laptop but a bit more expensive than most laptops in its class.
