I was visiting with a friend of mine recently about the advancements in computer hardware technology.  He is somewhat of a novice when it comes to computers.  He has been using them for a long time and does so daily  but he’s still relatively unskilled.  He’s an extremely intelligent man.  As a matter of fact, he is a retired doctor.  If a highly educated doctor struggles with his computer, you know there’s a problem with the way we interface with them.  While answering some questions that he had, one particular question came up.  He asked why isn’t the computer interface easier to use?

With all the advances in modern technology we’re really not utilizing them very well.  My prediction is that in the very near future, one of the most significant advancements in computing will be the implementation of the touch screen on a much wider scale.  I especially see this taking the laptop computer industry by storm.

Touch screens have been available for years on specialty computers.  It’s just a matter of time before all laptops are touch screen laptop computers.  We’re seeing touch screens in more and more gadgets these days.  Cell phones, video games, PDA’s, and GPS navigators to name a just a few.  It wouldn’t be possible for retail stores to implement self service checkout lines without touch screens.  There are probably hundreds of currently applications that are utilizing touch screens in today’s world.

Isn’t it about time they the world had more touch screen laptop computers?
